Update: Connecticut Foundation Continues Efforts to Assist the People of Haiti during the Rebuilding Process. MEDIA RELEASE /ADVISORY New Canaan, Connecticut – June 8, 2010 – Bridge Foundation, the New Canaan, Connecticut-based humanitarian relief organization announced it partnered with FilmAid International to bring the World Cup to Haiti. A Bridge Foundation chartered AN-12 Aircraft departed Miami International Airport for Port Au Prince, Haiti with more than a dozen large LED screens to show the World Cup Matches. “Broadcasting the World Cup matches in Port au Prince’s ‘football’ stadium will lift the spirits of tens of thousands of Haiti’s citizens after more than 5 months of extreme hardships. Bridge Foundation is honored to have supported FilmAid’s initiative in bringing this marvelous opportunity to the Haitian people,” said Bridge Foundation Chairman Andrew Hannah. Bridge Foundation staff were on theground in Port Au Prince, Haiti to oversee the delivery and transfer of the equipment. The Haitian Government, with the support ofthe United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINIUSTAH), in partnershipwith FilmAid International, Nocturne Productions, Tait Towers, Telemobile,Digicel, and PSI-Haiti, is bringing live broadcasts of the World Cup Games toHaiti for five weeks starting on Friday, June 11th. FilmAid will temporarilyinstall large LED screens into the Stadium Silvio Cator, the national stadiumin Port au Prince in order to show the tournaments games live, in real-time,during the morning and afternoons, an unprecedented event in Haiti. Throughoutthe duration of the games the partner organizations will also screen publicservice announcements, feature films, music videos, and children’smovies/cartoons along with live concerts featuring Haitian artists.Additionally, MINUSTAH will be coordinating with local soccer teams to holdinformal matches in the stadium and neighboring areas..
