Bridge Foundation organized a humanitarian flight to assist those affected by on-going hostilities in the war-torn Darfur region of Sudan.

Darfur is widely recognized as the most intractable complex humanitarian emergency (CHE) in the world today.  Increased international pressure to ensure greater flow of aid as well as addressing security issues has done little to improve the lot of those in the path of the warring militias.  The assessment of international humanitarian organizations working in Darfur is that the situation is continuing to deteriorate for the tens of thousands affected by the calamity.  Sudan has been wracked by 25 years of civil war, first in Southern Sudan and now occurring in Darfur.  More than 2 million people have been killed, mostly due to starvation.  4 million people now are completely reliant on international aid for survival.  Since the conflict in Darfur began in 2003, estimates are, as many as 300,000 people have been killed.

The Sudan airlift is part of The Darfur Project's "2007-Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Commitment" to provide essential humanitarian aid, via airlift, to Darfur, Chad and Central African Republic to assist those directly affected by the ongoing conflict.
