Update:  New Canaan’s Bridge Foundation Leads Effort in area of Mississippi affected by Hurricane Katrina. Personal thanks from Mississippi Senator Trent Lott

New Canaan, CT
– Bridge Foundation began its response to Hurricane Katrina on Sunday August 28, 2005.  An advance team arrived in Tallahassee, Florida prior to the hurricanes arrival the following morning.

Within 36 hours of the onslaught of Hurricane Katrina, Bridge Foundation generators were powering the main Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in Gulfport, Mississippi.  The EOC is located at the Harrison County Courthouse.

A second generator powered the emergency "911" communications system utilized by police, fire and ambulance services for the county allowing radio communications to be restored.  Bridge Foundation later powered one of the primary water pumping stations in Pass Christian and Long Beach which helped get potable water back on-line for a significant portion of the county.

Bridge Foundation’s Andrew Hannah and board member James Dowdle were on the ground in Gulfport, Mississippi overseeing the delivery and set-up of the 200KW generators.    Bridge’s representatives were personally thanked by Mississippi Senator Trent Lott at the Emergency Operations Center.  Senator Lott and EOC Director for Harrison County, John McAdams, commented on how rapidly Bridge Foundation was able to mobilize assistance to the people of Mississippi during this difficult time.

Through Diageo North America’s generosity and support, Bridge Foundation responded to last year’s devastating hurricanes by providing high capacity generators to six counties in Florida and Alabama.   Bridge Foundation also airlifted more than 100,000 pounds of humanitarian assistance to the people of Grenada and Jamaica following Ivan’s destructive path.   Bridge Foundation was pleased to again partner with Diageo North America in contributing to the restoration of these essential services.

Bridge Foundation was founded in 2002 and has provided emergency aid to Afghanistan, Iraq, Congo, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Haiti, Indonesia, Jamaica and Lebanon. Bridge Foundation has also assisted domestically in Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, Louisiana and West Virginia.   Bridge Foundation is an IRS registered 501©(3) tax exempt organization.
