Power returned to Mauriceville, Texas Emergency Operations Center as Hurricane Rita winds continue to ravage Orange County.

MAURICEVILLE, TX EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER
-- As Hurricane Rita continues to unleash dangerous wind and rain across Texas and the Gulf Coast, generators provided by Bridge Foundation are now operational at the Mauriceville Elementary School, which now serves as the center for all Emergency Operations in Orange County, Texas.  The  first generator came online at 1:55 PM, Central Time today.   The Mauriceville area was one of the hardest hit by Hurricane Rita. The second generator is powering a water pumping station that is responsible for approximately %75 of Orange County.

Now that the generators are online, emergency personnel are restoring communications and are right now preparing the center as a temporary shelter as the back end of the storm passes through the region.  In addition, a tractor-trailer packed with  bottled water has been delivered to the area and is being handed out to first-responders and victims.  Additional shipments of water are currently en route to the affected areas.

The generators and bottled water were put in position in the Baton Rouge area on Friday, just hours before the storm made landfall early this morning. The generators and water are there to service the area’s most critical needs.

Less than three weeks ago, Bridge Foundation was first on the scene in Gulfport, Mississippi following the wrath of Hurricane Katrina, providing power to operate the Harrison County EOC in Gulfport and the county’s Emergency 911 Communications Center.

Through Diageo’s generosity and support, Bridge Foundation responded to Hurricane Katrina just hours after the storm abated, and in rapid succession to last year’s Hurricanes Charley, Frances and Ivan throughout communities in Florida and Alabama.  Additionally, Bridge Foundation airlifted more than 100,000 pounds of humanitarian assistance to the people of Grenada and Jamaica following Ivan’s destructive path.

Bridge Foundation was founded in 2002 and has provided emergency aid to Afghanistan, Iraq, Congo, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Haiti, Indonesia, Jamaica and Lebanon. Bridge Foundation has also assisted domestically in Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, Louisiana and West Virginia.   Bridge Foundation is an IRS registered 501©(3) tax exempt organization.
