Bridge Foundation aids those affected by ongoing hostilities in war-torn Darfur
Monday, 09 April 2007

New Canaan, Connecticut - Bridge Foundation, the New Canaan, Connecticut based humanitarian relief organization announced it delivered a humanitarian flight to assist those affected by on-going hostilities in war-torn Darfur region of Sudan.

Darfur is widely recognized as the most complex humanitarian emergency (CHE) in the world today.  Increased international pressure to ensure greater flow of aid as well as addressing security issues has done little. All indication is that things are getting worse and not better.  Sudan has been wracked by a 21-year civil war. More than 2 million people have been killed, mostly due to starvation. 4 million people  now rely on international aid for survival.  Since the conflict began in 2003, as many as 300,000 people have died.

This is the first of several planned flights to the region. The next flight is planned for Abeche, Chad.

"Bridge Foundation is proud to deliver much needed supplies to help the people of Darfur during this difficult time," said Drew Hannah, Bridge Foundation Chairman.  “We could not have had a better partner than IMC.”

The airlift arrived on April 10th at 11:00 a.m. into Nyala Airport, Sudan.  The flight delivered more than 15,000 kilos of disaster relief including antibiotics, anti-malarial’s, anti-protozoal’s, pediatric vitamins and other essential drugs and medical supplies.

International Medical Corps met the airlift and helped to ensure the rapid deployment of supplies to the areas most in need.

Bridge Foundation principals, Stephen Skakel and Andrew Hannah were on the ground in Nyala, Sudan to oversee the distribution of the shipment.

Bridge Foundation was founded in 2002 and has provided emergency aid to Afghanistan, Iraq, Congo, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Haiti, Indonesia, Jamaica and Lebanon. Bridge Foundation has also assisted domestically in Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, Louisiana and West Virginia.   Bridge Foundation is an IRS registered 501©(3) tax exempt organization.
